COVID-19 Update: The details provided in this plan still apply as of January 3, 2022. When the trails open a porta-potty will be supplied and will be equipped as described below.
COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN January 13, 2021 Background: The Glenelg Nordic Ski Club (GNSC) is a non-profit organization maintaining approximately 25 kilometres of cross-country ski trails on the Klondyke Forest property owned by Grey County and adjacent private lands. The Glenelg Nordic Ski Club trail entrances are located at 444616 8th Concession and at 614583 Hamilton Lane (private property) in the municipality of West Grey, Ontario.
GNSC volunteers groom and track-set the trail as conditions require. There is one rentedportable toilet supplied by Wilton Sanitation, located in the main parking lot.
Club insurance is provided by TG Group Inc of Owen Sound. Grey County is also insured under the policy. Skiers are required to join the GNSC or pay day-use fees and thereby acknowledge the particulars of the waiver updated 2015. The GNSC does not provide any group training or group activities and does not have any buildings for public use on the property other than the rented portable toilet.
Province-wide Lockdown as of January 12, 2021: This document has been prepared as a requirement of the Ontario government Covid-19 lockdown announced on January 12, 2021. Outdoor recreational amenities, including cross country ski trails, are permitted to open, subject to conditions.
Relevant conditions include the preparation of a Covid-19 Safety Plan and that washrooms that are accessible to the public are cleaned and disinfected as frequently as is necessary to maintain a sanitary condition.
Social Distancing and Use of Masks: GNSC members are required to practice social distancing at all times and to wear a mask when social distancing is not possible. Any person who enters or uses the Klondyke Forest or adjacent properties must maintain a physical distance of at least two metres from other persons using the trails (excluding members of the same household). This includes the main parking lot and roadside parking on Hamilton Lane and while on the trails themselves.
Portable Toilet: The portable toilet at the main parking lot has been equipped with additional hand sanitizer and toilet paper so that users can wipe off any surfaces that they will be touching or have touched. The user can dispose of the paper in the portable toilet. Users are asked to use the minimum amount of paper necessary.
Wilton Sanitation provides the porta-potty and checks it weekly to ensure that supplies are adequate and the unit is clean.
Signage: Signage requesting trail users to maintain social distancing of two metres is posted at the main parking lot and at the James trailhead.
